60 Minutes of Math using our Bridges Curriculum: Focus lesson and discussion, time to work independently or in a small group to investigate with math manipulatives, and sharing time to reflect on our learning. Our day also includes: Phonics instruction using Itchy's Alphabet, a program familiar to the students from pre-K. During this time we focus on beginning sounds, identifying upper and lower case letters, and proper letter formation. Phonemic Awareness: Time in our day when we play with sounds within words by practicing such skills as- onset fluency, blending words, rhyming, word families, segmenting words, substituting sounds, and identifying final sounds. Writing: We write every day using our Kid Writing program. Our Writer's Workshop includes three parts: Focused mini lesson, student time to write independently while I conference with students, and a share time to present their writing. Students are working on their writing stamina and strengthening their skill in using phonetic spelling. Science and Social Studies: I align our science and social studies themes for each month to our Oklahoma State Standards. Our school also uses Project Lead the Way, a hands on inquiry based science program. . |
